3 held for defrauding 45 people with job promises in Russia

KATHMANDU, Oct 10: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested three people on the charge of duping 45 innocent people of Rs 4,511,000 by promising them jobs in Russia.

Acting on a tip-off, a CIB team arrested Raju Tamang, 39, of Nuwakot Okharpauwa rural municipality-6, currently staying at Chyasal in Lalitpur, Gyan Govinda Baidhya, 72, of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-12, Saugal and Jagat Bahadur Shrestha of Sindhupalchowk, currently staying at Narephant in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-32.

The trio collected Rs 100,000 to 200,000 from Russian job aspirants by showing them a fake demand letter requiring 83 candidates for an agriculture farm, according to a press statement issued by Nepal Police.

Baidhya had taken money from them promising them jobs in an agriculture farm owned by Raju Tamang in Russia. They were tricked into believing that they would get USD 1000 per month plus lodging and food and that Tamang had been staying in Russia for the last two years.

According to the press release, they were arrested on Oct 2, taken into custody for investigation and made them public only today.

Police also seized 74 MRPs, ATM cards, and Rs 430,000 in cash from Baidhya's house.
