KATHMANDU, Feb 1: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has brought second generation (2G) radar into operation officially from today.
The radar was brought into operation from 6:30 am today, according CAAN. Spokesperson at Tribhuwan International Airport, Premnath Thakur, said that the radar was operated with an objective of making air service safe and reliable.

The radar was introduced at Bhattedanda of Lalitpur with financial and technical assistance of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
A delegation from CAAN, Japanese Embassy and JICA had monitored the technical test of the system on January 24.
The radar with the capacity of 60 aeronautical miles at TIA has now been upgraded to 120 aeronautical miles. With the installation of radar, the problems of holding planes in the sky would be ended.
The CAAN claimed that visual information can be got from the radar introduced from today. The cost of the Radar is Rs 1 billion. The new radar can provide information of the flights as far as 450 kms from Kathmandu and the radar would help garner information of the flights in different heights.
Nepal, for the first time, had installed the radar with the assistance from Japan in 2057 BS. It was installed after the Thai Airways plane crashed at Ghoptebhir, Rasuwa.
