Maoist union leader arrested

KATHMANDU, May 14: Police on Saturday arrested Kalpadeep Rai, a trade union leader affiliated to the Maoists, on the charge of attempted murder of a fellow comrade.



Four days ago, Rai´s group had attacked and seriously injured an Anna Casino worker who is a supporter of the union faction close to Dr Baburam Bhattarai. [break]



Rai, the president of Anna Casino Committee of the Maoist-affiliated Trade Union, was remanded by the Kathmandu District Court shortly after his arrest from Durbarmarg.



Gyanuman Dangol, a treasurer in the same committee, is still undergoing treatment while three others have been discharged.



Rai´s group had attacked Dangol and his friends following a dispute over their party lines.
