KATHMANDU, Oct 31: A contempt of court petition has been filed against CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli and Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal for disrespecting the Supreme Court on Monday.

Underlining that the statements made by Oli and Dahal during a press conference conducted by the leaders on October 26 was contemptuous, Secretary General of Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal, Sarvendra Nath Shukla lodged the lawsuit.

“He has brought the case and a bench of judge will decide whether to accept or reject the petition,” SC spokesperson Narayan Prasad Panthee told Republica. According to him, the case will be submitted to the bench Tuesday.

During the press conference, Oli and Dahal had said the apex court not to issue any order which may vitiate the election environment and they had also expressed their dissatisfaction over the recent court order on separate ballot papers.

Meanwhile, a writ petition has been filed by advocate Sunil Kumar Patel seeking the apex court's order to ensure separate ballot papers also for provincial and parliamentary elections under the proportional representation (PR) system. Patel has also demanded that the Supreme Court to cancel the already printed ballot papers under the PR system.

Similarly, another writ petition was also filed at the Supreme Court by a staffer of the Office of the Attorney General, Bharat Kumar Mainali, demanding court order to ensure voting arrangements for civil servants on election-related duty. The petitioner has demanded that the civil servants and security personnel on election-related duty should be allowed to cast PR votes.
