Over 46,000 apply for temporary police jobs in Province 1

DHANKUTA, Oct 24: A total of 46,302 people have submitted their applications for temporary police in Province 1 alone, for the upcoming provincial and parliamentary elections. According to the Eastern Regional Police Office (ERPO), the number of applicants is nearly three times more than the required number of temporary police.

The Police Headquarters had sought applications for 16,818 positions of temporary police for the province. However the number of applicants was significantly high.

The government had announced to deploy 68,264 temporary police in the whole country for the parliamentary and provincial elections slated for November 26 and December 7.

However, the number of applicants in Province 1 has covered around 80 percent of the total seats. As per the details provided by Shiva Kumar Pokharel, information officer at ERPO, the number of male applicants is 35,660 while that of female applicants is 20,642.

In Morang, the number of temporary police personnel required is 3,157 but the number of applicants is 10,741, the highest among all districts in the province. Similarly, 611 temporary police personnel are required in Taplejung but the number of applicants reached 1,083. Likewise, there is the requirement of 180 temporary cops in Paanchthar but the number of applicants was 2,180. 

The process of submitting applications for temporary police started on October 6 and concluded on October 16. People of various age groups ranging from 18 to 50 have submitted their applications. On the basis of these applications, the selection process has begun from October 22 in all districts of Province 1. 

In the selection process, applicants are examined on various physical and mental aspects. The applicants won't be allowed to sit for the written exam if they don't pass the physical test, informed Sudip Rajbhandari, DSP of Dhankuta. People with various kinds of illness are also not allowed to take part in any of the tests.
