PM, other leaders emphasize religious harmony

KATHMANDU, July 28: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and other leaders have urged faith-based organizations to work for promoting harmonious relations among people of various faiths, religions and cultures.

Speaking at the International Leadership Conference organized by the Universal Peace Federation and the Parliamentarians Peace Council Nepal in the capital on Thursday, Prime Minister Oli urged faith-based organizations to foster harmonious relations between different religions and cultures.

He said that cordial relations among different religions and culture can only contribute to make any country peaceful and prosperous. “The common goal of all faith-based organizations should be to encourage people of a particular religion to appreciate other religions. Religious tolerance and harmony is the need of the hour,” he added.

Similarly, former prime minister as well as senior leader of CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal also emphasized strengthening inter-faith and inter-religious relations. He said that only strong inter-religious relations can ensure peace in a country like Nepal, which is full of diversity.

Dozens of political leaders, religious leaders and other diplomats from around 29 countries have arrived in Kathmandu to participate in the conference.

In the two-day-long conference, the participants will hold discussion on the role of government, civil society and faith-based organizations in addressing the contemporary religious as well as other political challenges.
