As per the mandate of the last Standing Committee meeting, the top office bearers also invited the Federation leaders representing the different factions and sought their opinion for resolving the long-standing factional disputes that have spilled over into the media. [break]
"There were disputes over who should lead the committee that will hold the national convention for a new leadership," said a senior Maoist leader.
Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal wants to give the responsibility of holding the national convention to the incumbent union chief Salikram Jammakattel, but the chairman´s proposal has been vehemently opposed by other union factions led by Badri Bajagain and Lal Dhwaj Nembang respectively.
Jammakattel is close to Dahal, Bajgain close to Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya and Nembang close to Vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai.
"I told the top office bearers that someone from the standing committee acceptable to all three factions should be given the responsibility of holding the national convention. I proposed the name of the party secretary Posta Bahadur Bogati," Bajagain told Republica.
Similarly, Nembang also held similar opinion. "Bogati could be acceptable to us," he said. Though Bogati is close to Dahal, the other two factions are well-disposed toward him because of his "gentleness".
But sources said Dahal is likely to propose another of his close politburo member for the position.
The top office bearers are scheduled to meet at 4 pm Wednesday. The meeting is also likely to nominate ministers in the new coalition.
