“As the leader of the largest party, you have a greater role to assume to complete the peace process and constitution writing,” a Shital Niwas source quoted the president as saying to the Maoist chairman.

The president has been meeting leaders of the political parties represented in the Constituent Assembly to urge them to expedite the peace process in view of the fast approaching deadline -- May 28. Yadav also met Madhesi leaders and leaders of other small parties on Friday. He has already met the prime minister to voice his concern.

“The president is worried if the peace process will not be completed on time,” Dahal told media persons after meeting the president.

Dahal said he assured the president that both the constitution drafting and peace process would be completed by the deadline.

“The Constitutional Committee (CC) and its subcommittee are making progress,” Dahal added, “The Special Committee has made public its calendar for army [combatants´] integration.”

Dahal, who was accompanied by Maoist Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya during the meeting, said he also informed the president that it would take some time for the CC to settle disputes over state restructuring, electoral systems and system of governance, among others.
