28 dead goats confiscated from Nagdhunga

KATHMANDU, Sept 21: The Metropolitan Police Sector, Nagdhunga today confiscated 28 dead goats being brought to Kathmandu on a vehicle. 

A team mobilized by the Sector found the dead goats in a vehicle (registrationplate number Na 5 Kha 1683) which was bringing goats to Kathmandu in course of checking. 

The police have taken the driver Yubaraj Pokharel and his helpers Dipesh Dhungana and Raju Bagale under control. Chief of the Sector, Police Inspector Rishiram Ghartimagar said that 28 out of the 41 goats the vehicle was carrying were found dead. 

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Livestock Development has also increased its monitoring with the start of the Dashain festival. 

A team comprising the Minister for Livestock Development Santa Kumar Tharu and the Minister of State Goma Kunwar inspected the goat market at Kalanki today. 

Following the observation of the market, Minister Tharu instructed thegoat traders to categorize the goats into healthy and sock ones and sell them accordingly at fair price during the Dashain, Tihar and Chhath festivals. 

As per the Livestock Act 2055 and Regulations 2056, a person trading in or distributing dead goats faces fine from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000 per goat.
