Nations condole Bhattarai's demise

KATHMANDU, March. 6: Condolence messages are pouring in at the sad demise of Nepali Congress founding leader and former Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai.



The US Embassy in Nepal has expressed its condolences to the Nepali people and to Bhattarai´s family. In a statement issued Sunday, the embassy said, "the passing of one of Nepal´s premier statesmen is a loss not only for the country he so faithfully served, but also for all democrats everywhere."[break]



"His example serves as a reminder of what can be achieved when one puts country before self," the statement read.



Similarly Indian Minister for External Affairs S M Krishna in a message to Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has said: "I am shocked and deeply grieved to learn of the sad demise of the towering leader of Nepali Congress and former Prime Minister Shri Krishna Prasad Bhattarai. Kishunji´s role in institutionalizing democracy will be remembered with gratitude by the people of Nepal."



Similarly, the Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu condoling Bhattarai´s death, has said, "Mr Bhattarai made a historic contribution to the various democratic movements of Nepal. His demise is a great loss for the nation."



Meanwhile, national spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tarun Vijay has expressed deep condolences over the demise of former Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai.



Issuing a press release on Sunday, Vijay said Bhattarai was a great icon of Nepal´s democratic movement.



The statement stated that Bhattarai authored a new chapter of India-Nepal relations rooted in civilization contours.



Likewise, Indian socialist leader Sudhindra Bhadauriya has sent his condolence message to Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala.
