NRA to relocate quake-affected settlements to safer places

KATHMANDU, August 27: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has started enlisting quake-survivors residing in places at high risk of natural disaster in the beneficiary list for their relocation to safer places. 

The Authority has certified as many as 136 such human settlements for them to relocate in safer places. Of them, 60 were to be relocated completely while rest others in partial. There are altogether 2,361 households in those settlements facing high risk of flood or landslide, according to the Authority. 

The executive committee's meeting of Authority held here today has enlisted 17 quake-affected households at Ganga Jamuna rural municipality in Dhading district. The government, after the recommendation of the Authority, would provide each beneficiary Rs 200,000 to support the purchase land for building house in the safer place. 

According to Authority's Spokesperson Yamlal Bhusal, 17 households residing at the disaster-prone areas in Ganga Jamuna rural municipality in Dhading districts were first among the beneficiaries selected for relocation. 

Each such beneficiary is also entitled to Rs 300,000 in addition for the reconstruction of their quake-damaged houses, shared Spokesperson Bhusal. 

The Authority has also forwarded the process for the construction of integrated settlements in safer places in five districts in the first phase. 

Such settlements would be built in Keraunja of Gorkha, Selang of Sindhupalchowk, Khalte of Rasuwa, Urleni of Nuwakot and Bosimpa of Dolakha. 

Consultants too have been mobilized to facilitate the relocation process, said the Authority. RSS
