KATHMANDU, August 27: Nepal’s national volleyball team defeated Denmark’s Hvidovre Volleyball Club by 17-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-23 in a friendly match on Saturday.
With a win against the Danish club in the match played at the court of Nepal Army Physical Fitness and Training Center, Lagankhel, the Nepal side equalized the friendly series 1-1.
Nepal Sports Council (NSC) organized two friendly matches to mark the 50 years of bilateral relation between Nepal and Denmark.
In the first friendly match played in Denmark, Nepali side had faced a defeat of 3-2 at the hands of home team.
Spiker Man Bahadur Shrestha accumulated the highest 24 points for Nepal while Dhan Bahadur Shrestha added 12 points for winning team. Another spiker Kul Bahadur Thapa earned four points for the home team.
The Nepal team was trained for three weeks under a Danish coach Matt van Wezel who went back home a week earlier.
Nepal’s head coach Jagdish Bhatta said that improved performance in the attacking department was the major reason behind the victory. He said his team did well in the receiving part as well. “We were weak in receiving part in the previous friendly match but we improved it this time. Today our spikers also were on top form,” said Bhatta.
Meanwhile, Hvidovre’s coach Martin Olssen said that it was a good warm up match for his team which is preparing for the new season of Danish volleyball league. “We have been preparing for the new season and it was good warm up match for my players. I had told my players to play without any pressure since it was just a friendly match,” said Olssen.
He also said it was good experience for his players playing against Nepali team in different weather. “It was quite good experience for us since we were playing in different weather but that wasn’t the reason behind our defeat. Nepal played really well and we will amend the mistakes we made today in our upcoming matches,” concluded Olssen.
