KATHMANDU, August 23: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has formed a probe panel to look into the issues regarding the disputed Kathmandu National Medical College.
According to MoH sources, Health Minister Giriraj Mani Pokhrel formed the 8-member panel which includes Dr Dipendra Raman Singh, Dr Guna Raj Lohani, Dr Bhola Ram Shrestha, Dr Runa Jha, Dr Swayam Prakash Pandit, MoH Under-Secretary Bhaba Nath Khatiwada, Kabita Aryal and Narayan Dhakal. Dhakal is the director of the Department of Drug Administration while Aryal is a representative of nurses. The panel has been mandated to submit the report within seven days.
The Kathmandu-based medical college neither operates hospital beds nor does it have teaching faculties and doctors, which are the prerequisites for running medical colleges. Despite the hospital not meeting criteria, vice chancellor of Tribhuvan University, Dr Tirtha Raj Khaniya, recently decided to issue affiliation to the college by violating the rules.
