Govt announces to hold provincial and federal parliamentary election on Nov 26

KATHMANDU, August 21: The government has announced to hold the provincial and federal parliamentary election on November 26.

The meeting of the cabinet held on Monday, has fixed the date of  both elections to conduct in single phase, informed spokesperson of the government and Minister for Information and Communication Mohan Bahadur Basnet.

Minister Basnet informed that the government will write a letter to the Election Commission about the decision and added that the EC will now decide regarding the phases of the elections.

Earlier, the Election Commission (EC) and the major political parties have agreed to conduct the provincial and parliamentary elections on the same day, by November 23.

Likewise, the government has endorsed the upcoming state visit of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to India from August 23.

The meeting has finalized the agendas to be discussed and finalized during the visit. During the visit, the Nepali side will raise the issue of the commitment made by India to support post-earthquake reconstruction and past agreements and losses caused by Laxmanpur and Koshi dams.

Similarly, the Nepali side will discuss regarding the repatriation treaty and the 1950 treaty and Nepal-India. During the visit Nepali delegation will also discuss operation of India-Nepal railway, trade, commerce, investment and other issues.
