Panchpokhari trail race on Aug 8

KATHMANDU, July 31: Bishwa Samabeshi Sahashi Sanstha and Duwang Panchpokhari Yuwa Club are jointly organizing a trail race in Panchpokhari of Sindhupalchowk district on August 8. 

Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on Monday, event coordinator Manju Gurung said that the distance of the race will be 24 kilometers. 

Panchpokhari lies at 4000 meters above from sea level.

Gurung, who is also the president of Bishwa Samabeshi Sahashi Sanstha, said that they have expected 150 runners to participate in the race. Fifty persons have already registered their names, she said. 

“Sindhupalchowk was in the news headlines after the 2015 earthquake. Now we are trying to change its identity through adventure sports,” said Gurung: 

“We also want to promote Panchpokhari, a Himalayan wetland with great religious importance.” 

The race will start at Panchpokhari and will end at Thaplang via Noshyampati, Takukharka, and Bhotang. 

The champions of the race in the men’s and women’s sections will bag a purse of Rs 25,000 each. 

Likewise the runner-ups in both sections will be rewarded with Rs 20,000 each, and the racers wrapping up the race in the third and fourth places will get Rs 15,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
