Dr KC begins 11th fast-unto-death demanding reforms in medical education

KATHMANDU, July 24: Senior orthopedic surgeon Dr. Govinda has started his hunger strike for the 11th time demanding reforms in medical education sector including edorsement of Medical Education Bill and sacking of some Tribhuvan University office bearers.

Crusader of reforms in the medical education sector, Dr KC announced his hunger strike on Monday reading a statement in front of media persons at the lobby of the third floor of the ENT building of the TU Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj.

Few days ago, the government had urged KC not to stage hunger strike saying that it was initiating the process to fulfill his demands.

Women Children and Social Welfare Parliamentary Committee has called a meeting to dwell on KC’s demands tomorrow. 

TU Vice Chancellor Tirtha Khaniya, KC supporters including former Education Minister Gagan Thapa held a meeting to seek ways to resolve KC’s demands. TU appointed campus chief and assistant deans at IoM in line with the decision taken this morning.

VC Khaniya had promised to put back the rights of IoM taken away by the TU. TU had  taken back the rights to fix fee structure and quotas at the medical colleges by amending its regulations three months ago.
