DHANUSHA, July 20: A 13-year-old boy died today in the course of treatment for fever at Janakpur Zonal Hospital and the family members accused doctors of negligence.

Raja, son of Kailash Mandal of Mithila Bihari rural municipality-10 in Dhanusha, was admitted to the hospital emergency ward with fever at 6 pm on Wednesday.

Initially doctors at the hospital returned patient Raja at 9 pm, citing a lack of beds, said the family. However, he was admitted after fever started taking over, they added.

"Raja's health started deteriorating around 9 pm, and when nurses named Naina Tara Sah and Kabita Chaudhary were asked to attend to him, they ignored the call of Raja's father Kailash and instead engaged in their personal activities," said a patient attendant Jumeda Khatun. At that time the nurses were playing with their cell phones while Dr Baidhya Nath Thakur was taking a rest in his chamber, she said.

When the condition of Raja further deteriorated at 12 am the same night, nurse Sah gave him an injection, which Raja's father Kailash claimed further deteriorated his condition. Sah refuted the accusation however, defending that she provided the injection on the advice of concerned doctors.
The hospital administration however countered the accusation, saying Raja's life could not be saved despite their continuous efforts. RSS
