LAHAN, Jan. 11 : As many as 24 persons have been arrested on the charge of electricity theft from various locations of Siraha district.


The Lahan-based distribution centre of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) arrested those for cable hooking from Padiya, Matiyarwa, Barchhawa and other sites.

A monitoring team from the distribution centre arrested them for tapping into the utility poles with hooks to steal electricity, said chief of the distribution centre Bishnu Prasad Yadav. Similarly, the monitoring team confiscated power meter, fans, television sets and other electronic appliances. Yadav added that they were charged Rs 260,000 in fine under the Power Leakage Control Act.


Meanwhile, the police in Siraha has seized goods worth Rs 150,000 illegally imported from different areas in the district. Those seized goods include cigars, clothes among others. RSS
