Rule to enforce Industrial Enterprises Act sought

KATHMANDU, July 12: Lawmakers have suggested the Industry Ministry that it introduced regulations to enforce the Industrial Enterprises Act. 

A report and decision implementation monitoring sub-committee under the Industry Commerce and Consumer Welfare Relations Committee of the Legislature-Parliament met with a team of the Ministry Wednesday and urged to formulate regulations regarding the Act soon. 

Subcommittee coordinator Leela Shrestha stressed the need of immediately building regulations to enforce the Act and Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Act. 

In the meeting, lawmaker Chandra Maharjan said the Ministry had not followed directions given by the Committee at different times. "The Ministry does not seem serious towards creating employment opportunities for youths," he added. 

Likewise, lawmaker Janak Bahadur Budha said delayed regulations on Industrial Enterprises Act would hamper the development of industrial sector. 

Ministry Secretary Shankar Prasad Koirala admitted the belated compliance of the Committee directions. 
The rule relating to SEZ Act had already been introduced while the there was already the 60 percent progress on the formulation of Industrial Enterprises Act. 

The process of setting up economic zones in all seven provinces was however initiated, according to Secretary Koirala. RSS
