Happy hours @ Happy Singh Da Dhaba

By No Author
KATHMANDU, March 24: Once you enter the lobby of Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza, walk forward 32 meters and on your right you will be welcomed by Mr Happy Singh, who is always a cheerful man.

Walk along with him wherever he takes you. Now guess what you see first? You will explain “Wow!” when you see the vintage motorbike, which looks somewhat like the one Indian actor Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan were riding in the film Sholay. [break]Now you are introduced to another renowned Indian actor Mithun Chakraborty. No, not in person, but through a poster pasted on the wall. Move ahead a bit, and you have Lucky Singh preparing some desi tharras (local liquors) of Punjab, especially for you. Oops! You don’t drink alcohol? No need to panic because Punjabi Kudi (Punjabi girl) is right next to you with garam-garam chaye (hot tea).

Pretty confused and flummoxed! Let’s cut it short. The whole of Punjab comes to Kathmandu now with Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza launching “Happy Singh Da Dhaba” last Sunday evening. Inaugurated by Rakesh Sood, Indian Ambassador to Nepal, the eatery gives you the true taste of Punjab with a highly embellished ambience which goes hand-in-hand with the theme of suitable foods and the locality. Be it posters of desi Indian films, the colorful electric bulbs or the popular paanwala, there is everything to make you feel you are wining and dining in the heart of Punjab.

From Chicken Tikka to Murghka Ghosh, as well as authentic Punjabi dishes such as Makken-de-Roti-Sarson-da-Saag, Palak Paneer and garama garam Gulab Jamun, Malai Kulfi to swadista Jalebi, you can sample all kinds of North Indian cuisines at Soaltee now. Other delicacies include Tawa Sabji, chicken Tangri, Kaleji Fry, Gobi Tandoor and Gajar Da Halwa.

The Dhaba food promotion, as the name suggests, is an event where the usual setting has been livened up to look like a typical dhaba (a local shop found along the highways in India), patronized by those traveling on the highway, particularly truck and bus drivers carrying goods between cities.

“The event is for everybody who has a taste for the best cuisine in town. You’ll get all the dishes you would find in a dhaba but made to a more perfect finish. We’ve tried to make the set-up and cuisines resemble the best you’ll find at a dhaba. You hope you like it,” shared Greesh Bindra, general manager of hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza.

So, what are you waiting for? With the weekend nearing by the day, you have a complete eatery in which treat your loved ones and be experimental with the delicious North Indian delicacies. But hurry because the food promotion is only open from March 27 until April 11 at Sundeck, Garden Terrace in Soaltee.
