Voting halted following clashes among parties in Bajhang

BAJHANG, June 28: Voting process has been halted at Pandu Higher Secondary center of Jay Prithivi Bahadur Municipality-3 of the district.

The voting process was interrupted following the clash among the cadres of the parties during the second phase of local level elections on Wednesday. The dispute erupted as the cadres of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML forced each other to leave the election center. During the dispute, cadres of CPN-UML pelted stones at the NC candidate for the post of ward chairperson, Prem Bahadur Khadka. Likewise, NC cadre Rajendra Bista received hand fractured.

Total 220 votes were cast at center A and 208 votes at center B before the clash broke out. There are 1314 voters registered in the center. The local administration is facilitating the meeting among the parties since 10 am. However, it is still uncertain to resume the voting.

Local NC cadre Surendra Chauhan accused the local administration for lacking in security. The polling center is 15 minutes walking distance from the district headquarter.

Likewise, in different incident, the election process was halted at Patadeval polling center of Khaptad Khana Rural Municipality-3 after a UML cadre attacked NC cadre Deepak Khadka. However, the voting resumed after the meeting of stakeholders decided to take action against the culprit.

The injured is receiving treatment in local medical center.
