KATHMANDU, June 14: The major opposition CPN-UML has drawn the attention of the government not to think of deferring the second round of local level election but to hold it on time.

The standing committee meeting of the party held at party office underscored that if the election was not held on time, the leadership of the government would be critically questioned. At the meeting, party Chairman KP Sharma Oli urged the government not shirk its duty and responsibility. He suggested the government that it could continue talks to create atmosphere favourable to hold the election on the scheduled time, according to Chief of publicity department and Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai.

Issuing a press release following the meeting, the UML expressed grave concern over the statement of government leaders expressing doubt on the election date. It reiterated that the amendment of the constitution and conduct of election are completely different topics.
The UML is completely against the government's proposal to amend the constitution and has demanded it be withdrawn. Some of the demands posed by RJP as compensation to the families of those killed in the agitations, treatment to the injured ones were positive, he added.

Similarly, the government is made aware not to create the situation that encourages impunity. The cases filed against the innocent people could be lifted to create the atmosphere more conducive to the election, the party stressed.
The UML has directed it entire rank and file to steep into election campaigning. RSS
