NHRC draws attention on implementation of new traffic rules

KATHMANDU, June 4:  The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has drawn attention on ongoing rift among pedestrians and the traffic police.

In a press statement, issued by the NHRC on Sunday,  it has been mentioned that the extortion faced by the citizens due to the new rule implemented to control the road accidents is gradually increasing in the capital and added that the NHRC has been getting several complaints in their social networking sites in these issues.

Regarding this, the NHRC has informed that it has discussed the ongoing fissures of pedestrians and the traffic police with the chief of Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD), DIG Mingmar Lama and other officials.

The interaction between the NHRC and the traffic police officials were made in the issues of patients going to the hospitals, students going for their exams, elderly people and other citizens facing molestation nowadays from the traffic police, reads the statement.

The commission has suggested the stakeholders in the development of the infrastructures to be made before implementing rules, zebra crossing to be made as soon as possible near the areas of hospitals and education institutions, provision of zebra crossing according to the international standards.
