20 killed in floods, landslides in past nine days, 3,258 people displaced

KATHMANDU, June 21: At least 20 people died due to monsoon-triggered incidents including floods, landslides and inundation across the country in the past nine days. They include 13 males, four females, three boys and a girl. 

The incidents of floods and landslide that took place in Sindhupalchowk, Saptari, Kavre, Gorkha, Kaski, Arghakhanchi, Palpa, Pyuthan, Jumla, Kalikot, Bajhang, Panchthar and Bajure districts claimed their lives, according to a report released by Nepal Police on Monday.  The highest number of casualties i.e. five has been reported in Sindhupalchowk district, while three others died in Doti districts. Remaining 12 others died in various other districts. 

Similarly, as many as 806 people were rescued during the period. Those rescued include 656 in Manang, 123 in Sindhupalchowk, eight each in Salyan and Lamjung, four each in Dang and Lamjung and three in Kanchanpur district, according to police.

Meanwhile, police confirmed that 21 people have gone missing during the disasters. They include 20 from Sindhupalchowk district alone. 

Police shared that swollen rivers and streams inundated at least 210 houses across the country displacing 3,258 people from 748 households.
