KATHMANDU, Mar 1: Kumari Futsal is set to organize the first women futsal tournament on March 3 in Thamel. The organizers on Wednesday informed that a total of 16 teams will take part in the competition. The teams are divided into four groups.
The organizers said that the first edition of Kumari Women’s Futsal Tournament will be played in league cum knockout format and the top two teams from each group will advance into the next round.
The group A consists of Lady Lions, Dhuku Futsal Hub, G4 Futsal and Chhahari Sikshya Sadan, while Futsal Arena Bouddha, Golden Girls, Sindhupalchowk FC and NMC are in group B.
Likewise, NewGen, GoSports, Acme and Dynamic Futsal are pitted in the group C, whereas Thunder Birds, Star Sports Club, Coliseum and the host Kumari Futsal are drawn in the group D.
The winner of the tournament will take home Rs 50,000 and the runner-up will be rewarded with Rs 20,000. The Best Player, the Highest Scorer and the Best Goalkeeper will get gift vouchers, stated the organizers.
The Secretary of the Nepal Futsal Commercial Association Rajan Lal Maharjan said that the primary aim of the tournament is to give more priority and create a platform for girls in football. He expressed hope that the tournament will help producing new players.
