Police suspect he may have plotted his own abduction for public attention
KATHMANDU, May 6: Naya Shakti Nepal’s election candidate who had gone missing earlier this week has been found safe in a forest near Godawari, Lalitpur. Madan Giri, 48, a candidate for ward chairman of Nagarjun Municipality, had suddenly disappeared from Khusibu area from Wednesday evening.

Police was initially treating his ‘sudden disappearance’ as case of possible abduction.

Giri was found in the forest by the police at 7:35 am on Friday, according to Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range SP Chhabilal Joshi. He said that Giri was found in a safe condition. In his statement, Giri had claimed that he was kidnapped by a group of four girls from Koteshwar.

SP Joshi, however, said that there was no evidence to substantiate that Giri was kidnapped.

"The circumstances show that he deliberately remained out of contact," said Joshi. It remains unclear what forced Giri to remain out of contact.

Police officials looking into the case suspect that Giri, who is a Nepal Army veteran, may have plotted drama of his own abduction to draw public attention.

Forty-eight-year old Giri is a candidate for Ward No 7 of the Nagarjun Municipality in Kathmandu. Police said that Giri had himself spread the message of ‘kidnapping’ to his friends and family members before his disappearance.
