KATHMANDU, July 12: ‘Teach for Nepal’, an organization dedicated for the development of education in rural areas of Nepal, is welcoming applications for its fifth ‘Teach for Nepal Fellowship’ program.

Candidates with at least a bachelors’ degree in any field are eligible to apply for the program. The fellowship is for two years, during which the selected candidates will work as full time teachers tutoring subjects like English, Math or Science at secondary schools in rural communities. In its fifth edition, the organization will provide fellowships to 90 candidates.
Started in 2013 as a campaign to cater the educational needs of rural school children, ‘Teach for Nepal’ has now expanded its partnership with 36 schools of Dhanusha, Sindhupalchowk and Lalitpur districts, that are in need for qualified teachers. At the moment 96 fellows from the organization are teaching 7000 secondary school students.

The program’s aim is to groom young college graduates as catalysts to uplift the reading and learning environment in rural schools.

“We are working to bridge the gap by enabling Nepal’s top talents to serve in high need areas, while also preparing themselves to eventually become change makers of the nation,” says Shisir Khanal, CEO of Teach for Nepal, in an official statement issued by the organization.

As of now, the candidates who have completed their fellowship have made measureable impacts in increasing the secondary school passing percentage of the partner schools and helped students secure the required grades to enter high schools.

Interested have to write two essays and submit an online application form from the organization’s website, www.teachfornepal.org. The deadline for submission is December 10, 2016.
