Govt fails to meet the target of inoculating 450,000 people in the first phase


KATHMANDU, Feb 7: In its first phase of COVID-19 vaccination campaign, Nepal has administered Covishield vaccine to as many as 184,857 people.


The first phase of campaign that kicked off on January 27 ended on Saturday.

As of 6 PM Saturday, the government successfully inoculated 184,857 frontline workers including health workers, sanitation workers and security personnel across Nepal, according to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).


Earlier, the government had set a target to vaccinate 450,000 people in the first phase of vaccination drive. However, the government has failed to meet the target.   


Of those receiving vaccine in the first phase include 24,224 people from Province 1, 25,637 from Province 2, 63,308 from Bagmati Province, 18,472 from Lumbini Province, 28,941 from Karnali Province and 14,855 from Sudur-Paschim Province.


The government of Nepal had received 1 million doses of Covishield vaccine against COVID-19 from India.
