KATHMANDU, April 18: A total of 11,880 security personnel will be deployed for the secondary level certificate examinations of Grade 12 scheduled to be held across the country from April 23 to May 5.
Organizing a press meet on Monday, the Ministry of Education (MoE) informed that a total of 35,700 human resources including 11,880 security personnel; 2,170 office assistants; 1,571 civil servants; 17,650 invigilators; 1,639 sub-superintendents and 990 superintendents will be deployed for the exams to be held in 990 exam centers.
“We have managed everything, including security for the examinations,” said Shanta Bahadur Shrestha, secretary at the MoE and vice chairman of the National Examination Board (NEB).
A total of 353,012 students of Grade 12 will sit for the exams from 7 am to 10 am, according to the National Examination Board.
“Among the examinees, 176,612 are boys and 176,400 are girls,” said Santosh Aryal, controller at the Office of the Controller of Examinations. “The results of Grade 12 will be published within 90 days,” he added.
It's the first time in history of Nepal that the School Leaving Certificate Examination (SLCE) is being held at Grade 12, putting an end to the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) of Grade 10 that started in 1934.
The eighth amendment to the Education Act that came into effect about 10 months ago has categorized school education from Grade 1-12. In the past, Grade 10 was considered as the exit point of school education.
Grade 12 includes science, management, humanities, education and vocational programs, according to NEB officials. There are 3,765 schools running classes for grades 11 and 12 in the country. They include 2,739 community schools, 748 private schools, 123 campuses, and 155 schools that run only +2 classes.
Students who cheat in the exams or those who help students cheat will face action including a fine of up to Rs 100,000 or six months imprisonment or both, according to the OCE.
According to the Act, Grade 8 exams are conducted at the district-level, Grade 10 exams at the region/province level and Grade 12 exams will be conducted by a national board.
The exams of different streams for Grade 11 will be conducted from June 15 throughout the country, according to the NEB.
