CPN (MC) selects candidates; NC, UML still on discussion

TAPLEJUNG, April 14: Nepali Congress and CPN-UML are still on discussion for selection of candidates while CPN (Maoist Centre) has already intensified its election campaign in villages. 

The CPN (MC) had selected the mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates for one municipality and eight rural municipalities in Taplejung districts on April 8. 

However, two big parties, NC and UML, are struggling to finalize the list of candidates for Fungling municipality – which has been taken with special importance. 

With large number of aspirants for mayor in the municipality, the big parties are holding series of discussion to pick a right candidate. 

Among the names in publicity for mayor from Nepali Congress here are former District President Keshab Prasad Dahal, incumbent Town President Shiva Kumar Gurung and District Treasurer Rana Bahadur Karki. 

According to reliable sources, the NC has so far finalized its candidates in Sidingma rural municipality. NC has chosen Nar Bahadur Kadariya and Geeta Chauhan as candidates for President and Vice-President in the rural municipality unopposed. 

Likewise, UML will also take more time to finalize the candidates in municipality, shared UML District Chairperson Bal Bahadur Samsohang. 

Both NC and UML are intensifying their preparations to nominate candidates in all posts of municipality and rural municipalities within April 20. 

Meanwhile, over 70,000 people are eligible in the district for voting in the civic polls. Number of voters has reached 70,778 in the district, informed District Election Office, Taplejung. 

Total 73 polling booths have been fixed in the district. The voters' education programme will be put in place once the materials from the Election Commission received. RSS
