KATHMANDU, April 13: The Nepal Army (NA) has said that it is going to start Nepal-China Special Joint Military drill titled ‘Sagarmatha Friendship-2017 from Sunday.

The joint military drill aimed at dealing with international terrorism and enhancing professional skills between the two militaries will be held for 10 days starting April 16 until April 25.

Such kinds of bilateral and multilateral military exercises do not only help exchange experiences and enhance professional skills but also bolster military and diplomatic ties among the countries, reads the press release issued by the NA today.

Although Nepal has been holding joint military exercises with other countries including India and the United States, this is the first time Nepal is holding such an exercise with China.

Nepal had proposed joint military exercises between the Nepal Army and China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) with the focus on disaster management and enhancing the skills of both the militaries during Chinese Defense Minister Chang Wanquan’s three-day official visit to Nepal on March 24.
