18 couples contesting upcoming elections

KATHMANDU, Nov 9: Prime Minister Sher Bahadaur Deuba is contesting the upcoming elections for the sixth time from Dadeldhura while his spouse Arzoo Deuba Rana is in the election fray from Kailali-5.


Deuba couple is the sole couple contesting the elections under the first past the post (FPTP) system among those prominent leaders and top three political parties.


Nepali Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand and his wife are in the list of proportional representation (PR) category.


Likewise, NC leader Manju Khand is contesting the elections under Khas Arya women category.


Former Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar features in the list of PR category while her husband CPN (Maoist Center) leader Barsha Man Pun is in the election race under the FPTP from Rolpa.

UML Vice Chairman Bam Dev Gautam is contesting the elections to the House of Representatives from Bardiya -1 while his wife Tulasha Thapa is in the list of PR category.


Gautam is contesting the upcoming elections for the sixth time.


UML Standing Committee member Shankar Pokharel is fighting the elections to the member of the Provincial Assembly from Dang (a) while his wife is in the list of PR category. Shakya is the central member under indigenous women category.


Both had started their political career from students’ life.


CPN (Maoist Center) leader Dev Gurung who is contesting from Lamjung under the FPTP while his wife Yashoda Subedi is in the list of RP category.


Gurung had won the elections to the First Constituent Assembly under the FPTP while Subedi had become the lawmaker from PR Category.


Likewise, Hitman Shakya and his wife Amrita Thapa Magar and Kul Bahadur KC and his wife Tara Gharti are also in the election race.


Maoist leader and former Home Minister Shakti Bahadur Basnet is contesting from Jajarkot while his wife Satya Pahadi is in the list of PR category.


Similarly, UML leader Sher Bahadur Tamang and Usha Kala Rai are also in the election fray.


UML leaders Krishna Bahadur Shrestha, Birodh Khatiwada and Raghubir Mahaseth and their respective wives are also in the election fray.



CPN (ML) General Secretary CP Mainali and his spouse Nilam Khadka are in the PR List from their party. Similarly, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Vice Chairman Buddhi Man Tamang and his wife Saraswati Tamang are also in the PR list.


Senior leader of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal Ashok Rai is contesting the elections to the House of Representatives from Sunsari-1 while his wife Sushila Shrestha is in the PR list.


Rastriya Janata Party Nepal leader Anil Jha, who is also a member of the presidium, is contesting the elections to the House of Representatives from Rautahat-1and his wife Dimpal Jha is in the PR list.


Rastriya Janata Party (Democratic) Deputy General Secretary Sagun Sundar Lawati is contesting the elections to the State Assembly from Panchthar while his wife Babina Moktan is in the PR list from the same party.
