KATHMANDU, Nov 5: Construction works of the Postal Highway in Siraha and Saptari section have been expedited.

Construction of bridges and roads in the 54 kilometers section of the Postal Highway, starting from Rajbiraj in Saptari district to Siraha Bazar in Siraha district have seen progress. Likewise, around 12 kilometers of the road stretching from eastern part of the Rajbiraj to Balan in the western part has been completed, informed Kamal Prasad Yadav, manager of the Rauta Shrestha of Diwa JV.

Works have been taking place to blacktop the remaining stretch of the Highway in these sections. Construction of 11 bridges in the 25 kilometers of the Highway is nearing completion.

The deadline for the construction of this Highway was at the end of the previous fiscal year, but owing to various reasons, the construction was delayed. Contract was awarded to the construction company for 1.2 billion rupees in December, 2017. The project has achieved 55 percent physical progress, informed engineer Chandra Yadav.

The 1792 kilometres long Postal Highway is considered a vital road for the Terai region as it connects almost all of the districts in the region. The Highway can potentially open up development opportunities in the region.
