Construction of Budhi Ganga Hydroelectricity project in full swing

ACHHAM, April 4; The construction of the Budhi Ganga Hydroelectricity Project in Achham district is going ahead at full pace.

According to Bir Bahadur Bohora, engineer of the project, activities like land acquisition, compensation distribution, construction of roadway to reach the project site and electricity line survey, are underway in full swing.

“The construction of road to reach the project, office buildings, and a bridge over Budhi Ganga River to reach the power house, among others, is underway. The project has built of four schools, three irrigating canals, drinking water infrastructure and roads in the area affected by the project,” he said.

The locals are excited as the construction of the project has gained pace. Amrit Bhul, a resident of Dhudhurkot VDC, said locals of the affected area were excited as the electricity lines passed from near their homes. “We are super excited as the construction of the project will increase employment and help with the economic development at the local level. We are hopeful that the project will complete within the deadline. There has been no obstruction in construction work, and work has also been in full swing. The construction project will be completed within the deadline if work continues at the same pace,” he said, adding that the project had already acquired 90 percent of the required land and work was being done on acquisition of the remaining land.

He said the project will acquire 220 ropani of land. The Budhi Ganga Hydroelectricity Project will generate 20 MW of electricity. The total cost of the project will be around Rs 6 billion. 

The government has been constructing The Budhi Ganga Hydroelectricity Project with subsidized loan-support from a Kuwait and a Saudi fund. The government has said will bear an unspecified amount on its own.

The project is schedule to complete in 2019 and will generate about 106 units of electricity annually. The tunnel for the project is about three kilometers long.
According to the project, electricity produced from the Budhi Ganga Hydroelectricity Project will be connected to the national grid.
