CHITWAN, July 10: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development, Kamal Thapa, today said the local elections will take place with political parties' consensus.

Speaking at a press conference organized by Media Nepal here, DPM Thapa said the government was leaving the options open to hold elections in current scenario or after state restructuring.

He underscored the government's plan to seek consensual elections by taking in account the suggestions of the opposition party among other parties.

The Local Body Restructuring Commission has specified working procedure until mid-March 2017 but the government has appealed for submission of state restructuring report within mid-September this year in view of the political parties' suggestion, he added.

On a different note, DPM Thapa said the government has presented an ambitious budget for country's economic progress, and succeeded in maintaining historic relation and partnership with Nepal's friends.

As the government is moving in the direction of implementing the new constitution, Minister Thapa said it was not right to continue a filthy game centered on a scramble for state power.

DPM Thapa took the occasion to note that the country was being driven towards a persistent instability with a change of more than two dozen governments in the past 25 to 26 years.

The Minister further added that a political committee has been formed under his leadership to address the Madhes-centric parties' demands. RSS
