KATHMANDU, March 31: The Mohan Baidya-led CPN (Revolutionary Maoist) has decided to participate in the local elections by forming an alliance with other like-minded political parties.

An "election alliance" named Desh Bhakta Janaganatantrik Morcha formed by the party with senior leader CP Gajurel as coordinator has decided to expedite manifesto writing and other preparatory works for the local elections. The party had boycotted the last Constituent Assembly (CA) election and also tried to disrupt the election process by detonating bombs. A child was killed in one of the bomb blasts in Kathmandu in 2013.

“The party has decided to join the local elections through the Desh Bhakta Janaganatantrik Morcha. We will hold talks with other political parties for electoral alliance with them,” Gajurel told Republica about the decision.

The party had formed an alliance under the leadership of Gajurel for political negotiations and other forms of 'peaceful struggle'. A central committee meeting of the alliance also decided to launch a campaign to expose 'the regressive, corrupt political forces' in the elections.

Likewise, the meeting of the alliance has decided to form alliance with other political parties based on common election agenda and not to form any alliance with major political parties in parliament.

“We will not form alliances with Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Maoist Center and Rastriya Prajatantra Party. We also have differing views with the Madhes-based political parties on most of the issues,” said Gajurel. According to him, they will hold talks with Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist for electoral alliance.

“Biplab (Chand)-led party has decided not to take part in the poll but is silent about going against the elections. So we hope they will support our alliance,” said Gajurel.
