The 5th Nepal Human Rights International Film Festival concluded on Sunday. Films from 38 different countries were presented for four days on the premises of Nepal Tourism Board. The festival brought together filmmakers from around the world and gave them a platform to learn new culture and share their knowledge among one another.
In conversation with Republica, some of the film makers at the festival talk about their movies and the message they tried to convey.

Kapil Joshi

India
My movie ‘Are you new?’ is about migration. India is a big country and when people migrate from one region to another they face discrimination. This problem is prevalent everywhere in the world. The message I am trying to convey through this movie is that people shouldn’t judge one another on basis of their culture and everyone has right to migrate without restriction.

Roborto Loez Saarendra
Chile
The movie ‘Outside’ is about a Chilean man who participated in a search for dead bodies from the result of war. This man also found the dead body of my father who had been missing. My intention with film was to make people aware about the history of Chile and so to make sure that such mistakes doesn’t repeat with the coming generation.

Marco Huertes
Madagascar/ Spain/ Norway
‘56’ is story of hope and empathy. It is a story of three children and their struggle to earn 56 kilos of rice which they are obliged to pay to go to school. We see the universe through their eyes in ‘56’. The message that I am trying to convey is that access to water and education is the corner stone of progress in any civilization.

Faisal Sayani
Pakistan
Feica vs Feica is a documentary about Pakistan’s veteran political cartoonist Feica. For past 30 years in his career, he has been getting into trouble with the state authorities and political parties. Feica is tired of the deterioration of the sate and has developed two different personalities as an alcoholic and good father and husband. I just wanted to present his story to the world.
