KATHMANDU, March 17: Although many quake victims who lost their houses during the April 2015 earthquake are yet to receive the first tranche of reconstruction grant, the government has already started distributing the third tranche of Rs 100,000 to certain victims.
As of now, 471,659 earthquake victims have got the first tranche of Rs 50,000 while just 1,438 victims have received the second tranche of Rs 150,000 in the 11 most-affected districts.
“So far, 67 houses have been rebuilt in Dolakha following the government set criteria. Such house owners have received the third tranche,” reads a statement released by the National Reconstruction Authority on Thursday.
The amount is being distributed as per the recommendation of the engineers deployed under the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC).
The government has finally distributed full reconstruction grant to 67 families for the first time in almost two years since the major quake struck. In total, 532,236 victims have been identified as eligible for the housing grant in 11 most-affected districts.
According to NRA, victims of Chheprapa, Junagu, Kavre and Namdu villages of Dolakha now have got the full amount of housing grant as they have rebuilt their collapsed houses as per the criteria set by the government. In the same district, 47,079 victims have received the first tranche and 258 victims have received the second tranche among the total of 51,940 identified as eligible for grant. However, the NRA is yet to sign quake grant agreement with over 4500 victims of the district.
The government has been distributing Rs 50,000 in first tranche to all eligible victims after singing grant agreement and the remaining second tranche of Rs 150,000 and third tranche of Rs 100,000 will be distributed to victims if they rebuild their houses as per the government criteria.
