16 people died of COVID-19 in past 24 hours, death toll hits 427

KATHMANDU, Sept 21:  Nepal’s coronavirus death toll climbed to 427 on Monday with 16 people dying of the viral disease in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.


At a virtual press briefing, Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the health ministry, said that the country recorded 16 deaths linked to coronavirus on Monday.

This is the highest single-day death toll due to coronavirus as of today. Of the deceased, 13 were males and three females.


One male each died in Jhapa (72 years old), Sunsari (49 years old), Parsa (88 years old), Makawanpur (68 years old), Lalitpur (61 years old), Chitwan (55 years old) and Rupandehi (67 years old) districts.


Likewise, two males (aged 84 and 62) from Bhaktapur died of coronavirus while other two males (aged 50 and 59) from Banke succumbed to COVID-19. Two males (aged 58 and 73) from Kathmandu died of coronavirus in the past 24 hours.


“With this, the country’s coronavirus death toll has jumped to 427,” Spokesperson Gautam said.


Sharing the country’s COVID-19 daily update on Monday afternoon, Spokesperson Gautam said that 1,154 new cases of coronavirus were detected while carrying out 9,533 PCR tests in the past 24 hours. Of the newly-infected, 418 are females and 736 are males.


“With 1,154 new cases recorded in various parts of the country in the past 24 hours, Nepal’s coronavirus caseload has reached 65, 276,” Gautam said.


There are currently 17,611 active cases of coronavirus across the country. In the past 24 hours, 1,005 COVID-19 patients were discharged after recovery from various hospitals across the country, taking Nepal’s COVID-19 recovery tally to 47,238.
