KHOTANG, Feb 17: Protests by the employees of local bodies in Khotang has hampered the day-to-day works of the District Development Committee (DDC), municipality and the VDCs in the district

The regular works have been greatly affected after the government employees took to the street holding banners pressing for their demands.

This has become a serious problem for the service seekers. The employees started their protests by putting up banners at their workplace - the DDC and municipality - since January 31 but when their demands were not addressed by the government they took their protests to another level by hitting the streets.

They have been obstructing the works demanding organizational structure and manpower management at the local level, formulation of policies in all the government bodies by taking the trade unions into confidence and effective planning and implementation of various programs.

The protesters are also demanding permanent job for staffers who have contributed 20 years government service.

According to Mohan Kumar Bhattrai, chairperson of the District Civil Service Employee's Association, the protests are being organized on the initiative if UML-affiliated employees association with support from other associations affiliated to Nepali Congress and Maoists.
