KATHMANDU, Feb 11: The 2nd International Women's Trade Expo is being organized at the Tribhuwan Army Officer's Club in Kathmandu from February 14 to 18.

The expo is being organized by Federation of Women's Entrepreneurs of Nepal (FWEAN) in partnership with Trade and Export Promotion Centre (TEPC), International Labour Organization (ILO) and CECI Uniteria.

Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun is scheduled to inaugurate the event, according to the organizers.

According to the organizers, the main aim of the expo is to encourage women entrepreneurship and promote their products in domestic as well as international market. Women entrepreneurs from different districts are participating in the expo.

“The expo will give platform to women entrepreneurs to expand their business. It is expected to develop trade relationship between Nepali women entrepreneurs, exporters and foreign importers. The expo provides women entrepreneurs to participate in an international standard expo at a low cost,” Shova Gyawali, general secretary of FWEAN, said.
Likewise, Sharada Rijal, first vice president of FWEAN, said that migration of skilled workforce to greener pastures abroad has created shortage of trained hands in the country. “It has led to decline in production,” she added.

The five- day expo will have more than 100 stalls showcasing products from countries like Bangladesh, Afghanistan, India, the Philippines and South Korea, among others.

Handicraft items, organic agro products, electrical products, food items, ornaments, decorating items, ICT products, among others, will be showcased in the expo, according to the organizers. “Similarly, around 50 buyers from SAARC and European countries are also expected to visit the expo.”

FWEAN have provided stalls free of cost to differently-abled people.

The organizers are expecting transactions of around Rs 50 million and 100,000 footfalls. Entry fee has been fixed at Rs 50.
