Kathmandu, Feb 10: Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Hitraj Pandey has assured that the government would address public grievances over the report of the Local Level Restructuring Commission (LLRC).

While receiving a memorandum from the Shankharapur Civil Society with the demand for recognizing the Shankharapur Municipality as a separate municipality during the restructuring of local level, the Minister said the taskforce formed under his leadership to study about complaints over the report and suggest the government about this would present the report by including the concerns of Shankharapur folks.

"The restructuring of local level is really a very difficult task," he said, calling on the Shankharapur locals not to launch any program of protest against it.

Society coordinator Rupeshlal Shrestha requested the Minister not to merge the Shankharapur Municipality with any other municipality as it has its own distinct history and identity.

Shankharapur was built by the then King Shakhadev unifying seven villages some 3,300 years ago on the direction of the Goddess Bajrayogini, the memo stated.

The Commission in its report proposed to merge this municipality with the Kageshwori Manahara Municipality which according to the society has hurt the sentiments of locals. RSS
