KATHMANDU, Feb 9: Buddha Air - one of the country’s leading private airline companies -- has added a new aircraft to its fleet.

The new 72-seater ATR 72-500 series aircraft landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Tuesday afternoon.

“We have brought in another aircraft of the ATR72-500 series,” Rupesh Joshi, marketing director of Buddha Air, told Republica. “The new aircraft will operate commercial flights after completing procedural requirements of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN),” Joshi added.

Officials say that the aircraft is likely to operate commercial flights from March 1. “This is the fourth aircraft of the ATR 72 series in our fleet,” the private airliner said, adding: “With this, Buddha Air now has nine aircraft in its fleet.”

Joshi said that the new aircraft will help the airline to manage regular flights even when its other aircraft are out of the service for scheduled maintenance. “With the new aircraft, we can now fly 365 days a year,” he added.

CAAN has given the aircraft 9N-AMG call-sign.

Buddha Air, which enjoy 70 percent share in domestic market, plans to add a new ATR 72-500 series aircraft within a year.
