14 students injured after teacher thrashes students with cane in Rolpa

ROLPA, June 3: Fourteen students were seriously injured in a primary school in Rolpa district after their teacher thrashed them with a cane, police said.

The incident occurred at Bhanu Primary School in Runtigadhi rural municipality-8 when teacher Laxmi Pun thrashed her students mercilessly with a cane for not entering the class on time, according to locals.

Doctors have put plaster casts on hands of five victims namely Bhimkumari Batha, Nirmala Pun, Gauri Gharti, Shanta Nepali and Bimala Roka.

The incident has come to the light only two weeks after the students were referred to Dang as treatment was impossible at the local health facility.

Initially, officials at the Runtigadhi rural municipality had tried to settle the case at local judicial committee. However, lately, the guardians filed a case at the local police station.

"We came to know about the incident yesterday," District Police Chief Deepak Khadka told Republica Online adding that the Holeri Police Station will further launch probe into the incident and take action against the accused.

Meanwhile, the management committee of the Bhanu Primary School has decided to sack the teacher following the incident. "The teacher has been asked to bear medical expenses for those injured teachers," Bhim Bahadur Gharti, the chairman of the school management committee, said.
