KATHMANDU, August 25: Altogether 14 federal lawmakers including one belonging to the National Assembly of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) have verified their signatures to form a new political party headed by Mahantha Thakur.
According to JSP leader Keshab Jha, a total of 17 of the total 51 central executive committee members of the JSP have verified their signatures. Similarly, 14 of the total 37 lawmakers of the JSP have verified their signatures to form Democratic Socialist Party (DSP).
Thakur and Mahato removed from central committee
The JSP has a total 34 members including two suspended lawmakers in the House of Representatives and three lawmakers in the National Assembly. "We have secured support of more than 20 percent of lawmakers and the party's central executive committee members to form a new political party," said Jha.
The EC is expected to make an official decision about the formation of the new party later today. With this, JSP headed by Upendra Yadav has split into two parties.
