JANAKPURDHAM, March 29: Youth leaders and activists belonging to the CPN-UML have blocked the East-West highway protesting against the incident where a miscreant sprayed Mobil (engine oil) at Mayor of Siraha’s Golbazar Municipality Shyam Shrestha.
The agitating youths started the protest demanding strict action against the miscreant. They are protesting against the incident by burning tires on the Golbazar section of the East-West Highway.
Elected mayor from UML, Shrestha is the brother of former minister and CPN-UML federal MP Leela Nath Shrestha. Police have arrested one of the persons involved in attacking Shrestha.
The arrested has been identified as 43-year-old Sadhusaran Mahara of Naraha Rural Municipality-4. He is a worker of Nepal Communist Party (Majority).
According to Police Inspector Tupendra Budhathoki at the Area Police Office Golbazar, the arrested Mahara has been taken to District Police Office, Siraha.
The miscreants have also scattered pamphlets of the Nepal Communist Party (Majority) People’s Struggle Mobilization Committee. In the leaflet, they have maintained that Mayor Shrestha was punished for shielding loan sharks, and defrauding millions of rupees in tax.
They have alleged that Mayor Shrestha had embezzled Rs 6.2 million from Golbazar-1 Muktsar road by making fake papers, illegally exploiting the river, unfairly sacking employees working in the municipality and taking action against their leaders. This is the first incident of a Mobil attack against an elected representative in Siraha.
