KATHMANDU, March 23: A Nepali girl who was sold in Dubai has been rescued by the initiatives of Maiti India, Love Nepal and Love and Hope.
The 20-year-old, Kalpana (name changed) of Bheriganga Municipality, Surkhet, was sold by a human trafficking gang in Dubai for Rs 504,000. The victim said that Mina Dolma, 32-year-old Deepak Magar, 30-year-old Mausam, 35-year-old Pakistani citizen Samir, and others were involved in the human trafficking.
Kalpana, who was studying in Grade 12, was ready to go for foreign employment due to the poor financial condition of her family. The human traffickers, taking advantage of her poor financial condition, lured her and sold her in Dubai.
She was taken to Dubai by the human trafficker gang on January 16 through an Air Arabia aircraft. It has also come to light that a human trafficker called Mausam had personally reached the Tribhuvan International Airport to send her to Dubai.
After she said that she could not work due to repeated sexual abuse and mental stress, she found out she had been sold. According to her, the employer told her that she had been sold for Rs 504,000 and that she could not return to Nepal until the said money was paid.
After learning about the incident, Swedish citizens Jonathan and John Ablen appealed to Love Nepal's President Bal Krishna Pandey and Maiti India's Director Pooja Pandey for rescue. Then a joint team of Bal Krishna and Puja rescued Kalpana with the necessary coordination of the Human Trafficking and Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Nepal Police.
“We both reached there and rescued her. The Nepali Embassy, Nepali Public Relations Committee UAE, NRNA UAE etc. had significant support for her rescue. At present, the condition of the victim is very critical. Her treatment is currently underway,'' said Bal Krishna Pandey.
Pandey also said that the Human Trafficking and Investigation Bureau has started an investigation on the request of the rescuers. He said that the victim is also ready to file a complaint. Swedish citizens Jonathan and John Ablen had been helping Kalpana since the first grade of her education. Pandey said that after finding out that she had been sold, Jonathan himself went to Dubai and tried to rescue her.
