KATHMANDU, Feb 9: The Supreme Court has sought a written response in response to the writ petition seeking an order to revise the necessary safety standards related to aviation safety.
A single bench led by Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut on Wednesday granted priority right by seeking a written reply from the government on the matter.
The writ petition filed by Senior Advocate Dr Dinesh Tripathi on February 3, has demanded the government to revise and amend the existing laws, policies and air safety standards related to air transport operations.
In the writ petition, it has been argued that since the air transport sector is not safe under the current air traffic safety regulations, there is a need to revise and amend the said standards.
It is also mentioned that a high-level committee consisting of experts should be formed to review the existing laws, rules and safety standards and create a permanent mechanism for monitoring non-compliance with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Also, there is a demand to build a permanent mechanism for investigating air accidents.
