KANCHANPUR, Nov 25: CPN-UML candidate Tara Lama Tamang has won the election to the member of House of Representatives (HoR) from Kanchanpur-1.
He defeated Bina Magar of the CPN (Maoist Centre) by a margin of 5,546 votes. As per the final results of the vote-count issued by the Election Officer's Office, Tamang has secured 24,892 votes. His closest contender Magar got 19,346 votes.
Tamang, who supported Magar in the 2017 parliamentary elections, defeated her by a wide margin of votes in this election. He is also the former Minister for Economic Affairs in the Sudurpaschim Province Government. He quit the CPN (Unified Socialist) and joined the UML only last August.
Similarly, Nanda Kumar Rana of Nagarik Unmukti Party got 8,659 votes, Dilli Bahadur Shahi of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) 3,530 and Dev Raj Joshi of Rastriya Swatantra Party 1,906 votes.
63,604 of the 91,110 registered voters had cast votes in the election in this constituency. The Office said 3,614 votes were invalid.
