KATHMANDU, August 23: Nepal Police (NP) and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct charging stations for electric vehicles (EV) and its operation.

Nepal Police's Inspector General Dhiraj Pratap Singh and Nepal Electricity Authority's Executive Director Kulman Ghising signed the MoU amidst a special ceremony held in Kathmandu on Monday.

While extending gratitude towards the NEA for the MoU, Inspector General Singh urged the NEA leadership to expand charging stations in police offices having a huge workforce.

Stating that Nepal Police had been collaborating with NEA in cases of theft of electricity poles and leakage of electricity, Singh assured that the Nepal Police is ever ready to give security to the charging stations to be built along the highways and hilly areas.

On the occasion, Ghising shared that NEA is planning to build a charging station every 60 kilometers in the highway. He said that the role of police is very important for the installation of charging stations.

Ghising said that collaborating with Nepal Police would be very important in addressing the security concerns of the charging stations and issues related to locating the right venue to build charging stations.

The MoU aims to promote usage of EVs and facilitate the operation of the EVs. The MoU is expected to help conserve the environment, ecology and living organisms that are being affected by the carbon emission from the fossil-fuel powered vehicles as well as industries.
